• Photos		Harold & Lillian (Henschel) Lohr, circa 1941-42 Probable wedding photo for Harold & Lillian, taken just prior to Harold leaving for the Pacific in WWII. The jewelry on Lillian's lapel is a US Navy pin (USN with anchor & eagle). Black & white photograph, colored with painted highlights.

  		Harold Lohr, WWII US Navy "Seabees" 50th Navy Construction Battalion (NCB) Note on back from Harold's aunt, Bessie(Newmiller) Bartholomew: Thought you would enjoy this picture as Harold is in the center or rather the second one I marked it. When he was in service and had all these fellow[s] under him - Paul has one so I thought of you- Am sending pictures that I had already in the Envelope so I'll just put it in with the other others as its cheaper in a box then in an Envelope- Bessie incorrectly identified Harold in the picture; he is not the one identified with an "X" but one person to the left of that sailor (first row, third from left). It is also probable that she was incorrect about Harold having command of these individuals, i.e. "... had all these fellow[s] under him." This appears to be all older, commanding officers of which Harold was one, and not the men under his command.

  		Sons of Charles & Mary (Newmiller) Lohr, circa 1905 L-R: Harold, Paul, and Ward Lohr. Note on back from Bessie (Newmiller) Bartholomew: Ward - Paul - Harold he died soon after picture was taken- Ward is the one that passed away- the baby- This is the only known picture of Ward, who died at 11 months old. If not for the note on this photograph, his name and existence might never have been known.

Wisconsin Historical Society, Madison, Wisconsin [Microfilm]), Microfilm., page 1, column 7, 5 Oct 1944 Harold Lohr Passes Away Here Tuesday Was Veteran of World War II; Had Been Ill Since Dec. 1943 Funeral services will be held tomorrow, Friday afternoon, at the Albrecht Funeral Home for Harold Lohr, veteran of World War II. Rev. L. C. Partch will officiate at the last rites which [sic] will begin at two o’clock. Burial will be at Watertown. The son of Charles and Mary Newmiller Lohr, Harold was born at Orangeville, Ill. January 27, 1899. With the family he lived at Monroe for ten years and with his parents came to Columbus thirty years ago. He later became employed as a structural iron worker in Milwaukee where he was [sic] since lived. His first wife, Ellen Setzkorn died October 27, 1940. On January 1, 1943 he was married to Mrs. Lillian Olson, a navy chaplain performing the ceremony at Norfolk, Virginia. Harold enlisted in the navy November 22, 1942 and took his boot training at Camp Bradford, Virginia. In March of 1943 he was sent overseas, serving in the Central Pacific with the 50th U.S. Construction Battalion until he was taken ill in December of that year. Transferred by plane to Honolulu he underwent an operation there in January and shortly after was brought to Oakland, California. In May of this year he came to Hines Hospital, Chicago and last week to the local hospital where he passed away early Tuesday morning, October 3. He was a member of Foreign Wars. His wife, daughter Barbara, his parents, two brothers, Paul of this city and Gerald of Chicago survive him.
